Computer Requirements for Forex Traders

Unless you are going to use a money manager and not do any trading yourself you could get by with just a phone. Don't know too many traders doing it all by phone. With this in mind and you will be doing the trading yourself you must be certain of the equipment you have. After all, this is the main 'tool' of your business!

We have listed what we believe to be the minimum for a decent machine to operate and run your trading business. This is the very first and foremost consideration if you are just entering the market! (or have been at it awhile...check your system out and assure yourself of peak performance. How do you optimize your system? There are so many things that could and usually do go wrong. One of the first things experienced is power outages. This is where and why a power back-up is critical! You really don't want to be caught in a particular type of trade then lose connection via a power outage! You need to  have a quality power battery back-up source!

We suggest the first buck you spend on the computer and/or upgrade is for a battery backup, can't emphasis this enough.

Should you have an existing machine that could be 'upgraded' to meet the requirements for forex trading we suggest you get an estimate on the cost before you proceed. It may be better or if you need a new machine altogether...technology changes so quickly. We can help you with that also, members only!

What YOU Should Have!

The motherboard is one of the most important components. It should be stable and compatible with most trading software.

NOTE: Many motherboards run into software conflicts with multi-monitor cards. That results in lockups. motherboard has the Intel 975 Express Chipset Intel Matrix Storage Technology which supports Raid 1, or 5 protection against a hard drive failure. Most traders usually have at least two monitors running, although this isn't entirely necessary.

Sata 3Gbps ports for high speed storage and data access.

Dual-Channel DDR2 memory supports up to 10.7GB/s of bandwidth and 8GB addressability for faster system response.

Compatible Processors Pentium Extreme Edition, Pentium D, Pentium 4, Pentium 4 Extreme Edition

It should have the Western Digital 74MB Raptor 10,000 drive, which is almost twice as fast as the standard 7,200 RPM drive used by most computers.

DDR 533 memory

Video card capable of two monitors. More on this in the members area.

Logitech LX700 wireless keyboard and mouse multiple-port video cards, example:  Xentera GT4 PCI- Express card (FireMV 2400 PCI Express) resolution of up to 1600 x 1200. Windows XP Pro operating software and be optimized via both hardware and software. be cooled with a Zalman 120mm CPU fan / copper heat sink and case fan. The computer should have PCAngel, which has virtually eliminated most technical support.
