Is Your IP Connection Working Properly?

Have you ever been on line and your computer seems too slow? Slower then normal? Does this happen often? How about when you have your trading platform up and running...any slow orders to be placed that seem to be taking al night?, getting the prompt, "processing" and it just hangs there? Those are signs of a connection problem my friend.

If this continues during your trading you may get into a position that due to the volatility of the market you may want to hedge or just get out of. There is that slow connection, if any.

Until you are confident of your IP connection I would not do anymore trading online.

What you need to do at this point is to check your connection on your end first. Only do this if your confident enough to perform the following, please...

open up your DOS prompt. To do this click Start > Run> and type: Command. Then press Enter.

The DOS screen will appear. Type the following exactly as it appears below (with a space after TRACERT): TRACERT *(your default gateway and/ IP address) Then press Enter. (there is a space between TRACERT and the numbers) this was used in DOS for Time Warner.

What your basically looking for are these: * * * in the script that shows up in DOS. If you don't see any, then your connection is probably alright.

traceroute only works on UNIX/Linux and other systems such as Cisco, etc

If you have (ASTERISKS) * * * than you should call your IP server direct and ask them to check your system for you. They will be able to do it from their end with your permission.

After this is cleared up and your IP says your system is running fine then go to live chat on your trading platform, they will also be able to check your computer to see if there is any lost data. SHOULD ANY BE FOUND you should STOP all on-line trading until the problem is isolated and corrected.

Back Up Plan!

You should have your hard copy ledger in front of you, you know the one...it has all your trades both open and closed. It has the pertinent data and the results. You have it right? If not, PLEASE start doing this immediately. We have a template that you can download from the members area to use if your in need of one, It has all the data and formulas, if needed, laid out.

O.K. HERE IT IS, Your Back Up PLAN!

Your brokers PHONE NUMBER! That's it. It should be readily available, preferably at the top of each page of your signal sheet. SHOULD you have ANY delayed problems call immediately! DO NOT wait to see if 'things' clear up. Be ready to provide the order numbers, your position and what you want to do. Don't worry, if you don't know exactly what is what, they will help you.

ALSO, if you use an internet phone line, HAVE A MOBILE PHONE available! If your having IP problems there is a pretty good chance you may be having phone problems if your on the IP phone service.

Sure, you probably have read about them, maybe even experienced the let down by having a margin call.

We are NOT going into what is the Margin Call in today's article. Nope, what we are going to discuss is how to make sure a simple method will help you from experiencing one!

Although is a lot to know on how they work, how to calculate for Margin Calls and prevent them, those are covered in the members area.
